The year is winding down, but most of us are busier than ever! So many of us spend the first half of December rushing around, preparing for the holidays and hopefully a little bit of a break.

Thos of us here at IDLM headquarters are no exception. We have all kinds of amazing new projects, classes, and partnerships lined up for 2026, and we are working hard to cross all our T’s and dot all the I’s so that everything will be in place when January comes around and it’s time to get back to business.

We are especially excited about our annual Birthday Bash, especially since we will be celebrating five amazing years of IDLM! We will be kicking off the New Year with our Birthday Bash from January 5 through January 9, hosting free online workshops every night that week beginning with a panel discussion on Monday to announce and discuss some of the fabulous new developments for IDLM in 2026. For the rest of the week we will be hearing from some of our favorite guest experts, including newer friends like Shawn B and Catherine the Death Project Manager, and established partners like Barbara Karnes, Gabby Jimenez, and Brenda and Nancy from Odonata Care.

The start of a new year is always a great time for new beginnings, and in 2026 the plan is for IDLM to start big and then keep getting bigger. We are so proud and grateful to be celebrating five whole years of teaching, care, and community, and we are so glad to have you here as a part of that. So mark your 2026 calendars and get ready to celebrate with us! See you there!

And if you don’t put any time in, well, it might not happen at all.

A Foundation for the Future

What distinguishes IDLM from many other programs is its integrative and forward-thinking approach. IDLM prepares doulas to work with hospice systems, not outside of them. The curriculum includes education on early hospice enrollment advocacy, regulatory awareness, ethical boundaries, and professional communication within healthcare environments.

The medical workers will do their work and the funeral workers will do theirs—the doula’s job is to see what isn’t being handled, and to figure out the best way to fill in the gaps.
